Product Description
Located between Japan’s soaring Southern Alps and the towering Central Alps, at just over 2,600 feet, Mars Shinshu is Japan’s highest whisky distillery. The Hombo family have been distilling for more than a century and added whisky to their repertoire in 1949. At that time the distillery was located in the Tsunuki region of Kagoshima Prefecture on the southern-most island of Kyushu.
Until 1984, it was the southernmost whisky made in Japan, which ended when the Hombo clan moved the distillery to the idyllic alpine setting of Miyada village in southern Nagano Prefecture, Central Japan. They chose this site for its cool temperature, which slowed maturation, and the plentiful soft granite filtered snowmelt fed aquifers. A beautiful choice.
The Komagatake Single Malt is the culmination of over a decade of Mars Whisky's Komagatake distillery finding their voice again after a closure that lasted for nearly twenty years. Their commitment to the craft of their spirit and the influence of the surrounding landscape from which it was born has been steadfast in this time. With every passing year there have been blending adjustments to strength, barrel type, peat levels, and maturation - all in service of finding their new house style.
700mL, 48% ABV.

Very clean and refreshing.
I did not detect a hit from the 'spirit'. If that did happen it was very minimal. Most likely, I will purchase again. Very smooth on palate. Hints of mandarin orange, pear juice and enriched whole milk.
